Student Feature: Gavin L.

Meet Gavin. He is a new student to CalPac. When our staff heard that he is involved in rodeo, we wanted to learn more about him and his interests.

How long have you been involved in rodeo events?

I have been involved in Rodeo since I was 4 years old.

Do any other members in your family rodeo?

Yes, my whole family has Rodeoed. Mom and Dad did too until they had my sister and I. My sister, cousins, aunts and uncles rodeo too!

Where do you train?

I train in my backyard and my parents help me. We have a few close family that rodeo and help me when my parents can not.

What places have you traveled to? What has been your favorite destination

We have traveled all over the United States. Some of of the places we have been are Tennessee, Iowa, Wyoming and Utah. Bishop, California is one of my favorite places to rodeo. Our state finals are held there.

Are you sponsored by a company? If so, what does the sponsorship entail?

Yes, I have two sponsors- Platinum Performance (they are a horse supplement company) and Best Ever Pads (they are a saddle pad company). They give my family product for our horses and give us apparel.

What do you do in a rodeo?

We do not ride bulls; that is bull riding. I rope steers/cows and tie them while I am riding a horse.

What do you love about being involved in the rodeo circuit? What is the most challenging part?

The competition would be my favorite thing. Getting to travel and make new friends is a favorite too. I am challenged every day with this sport. Animals have a mind of their own. I can practice every day and I may show up and be defeated by the animal.
